Request: menu option to Replace attachment

Post by DrJJWMac »

When viewing the attachment of a missing attachment (i.e. "Can't find file ..."), we can choose to detach or reattach an attachment using the optional (context click) menu choice.

Please consider adding a menu option to Replace the missing attachment. The one step option would detach the missing attachment and attach a new one in its place.

Also, when the pane has no attachment, please add the context menu to make it possible to Attach a reference.

Reattach a missing attachment is the same as Replace. Bookends doesn't require that the "reattached" PDF has the same name as the original (and certainly can't know if it's the same PDF or not).

Adding an Attach contextual menu if there is no attachment wouldn't be hard, but note that the refs menu already has this option.

This is not the case for my actions:

* Attach a file MyFile.pdf
* Rename the file in the Finder to MyFileX.pdf
* Go to the inspector panel, view the Attachments tab
* Context click to Reattach to "Can't find file ..."
* Attach file
--> PREVIOUS MISSING ATTACHMENT REMAINS!

Actually, it turns out that the original attachment name WAS removed from the database. But the popup showing the list of attachments and the attachment inspector weren't updated immediately, so the old name was still listed. If you select the reference again after reattaching, that forces an update and you'll see the old name is gone.

In the next update the popup menu and inspector will be updated immediately when a file is reattached.
