Import from Bibliothèque Nationale de France

Post by stephaniet »

Hi, I am trying to create my own import filter for the BnF, as it seems that it doesn't exist already. I got all the Z39.50 info, but my problem is that my search results are not sliding into the correct categories in the Bookends Browser. The BnF uses the UNIMARC format, and I can't seem to find info on how to bring that particular format into Bookends. Can anyone help?

Thanks,
Stephanie

It's probably the parsing of the MARC record that is your problem -- the actual fields used by different libraries differ. Have you looked in the User Guide? There is a detailed section on how to parse MARC records (it's actually very easy).

Yes, that's what I figured. I did look at the User Guide which makes it seem somewhat straightforward (I am not an information specialist, just a grad student trying to write a dissertation), but it seems like it's going to require me to sift through the 56 pages of documentation for the BnF's UNIMARC formatting in order to figure out what goes where, right?

Is there anyway for me to see the UNIMARC record from the BNF so I can understand better what goes where?

No, it's much easier than that. You are seeing the Unimarc record in the lower pane (do a search, select a reference, and you'll see the Unimarc record below). Use that information to edit the tags you want to import. If you need help with this, please contact tech support off-forum (support@sonnysoftware.com).
