Sync smart folders?

Post by midas »

Is it possible to sync smart folders between the mobile and desktop apps.... this seems pretty straightforward. Just sync the name of the folder and the associated search query. Each platform would then poplulate the smart folder based on the local library.

Not possible -- the db engine in Bookends is far more powerful than that in BOT and can do searches that aren't possible on the iOS device. There is no 1:1 correspondence with the feature sets of the two apps (of course).

Couldn't Bookends (on Mac) easily determine which Smart Folders have queries that are supportable by BOT and only sync those?

FUrthermore, the Smart Folders with search queries too complex or unsupported in BOT could still sync but wouldn't be dynamically updated in BOT. THis could be denoted in BOT with a little exclamation icon on the Smart Folder so that users are aware that this Smart Folder updates only on the desktop version.

Anyway, my point is that I think there are fairly simple workarounds that would make syncing of Smart Folders reasonably effective. And, powerful.
