Getting started on Bookends IOS only

Post by Happymama »

Hi
I am a new user and have some very basic questions which I haven’t been able to resolve looking at youtube videos or reading comments here on the forum, hence a new post : )
I only use Bookends on my ipad pro and do not have it on a laptop or mac. I have the paid basic app.

1. How do I initiate a search for an article using my university proxy? That is, without using the search function embedded in PubMed etc. I have the proxy set up, but I don’t know how to make that my intial step for searching.

2. Once I have searched, grabbed citations etc, how do I then create a bibliography on IOS?

3. How can I insert citations in Pages on ipad, or Word on ipad?

Thanks!

1. The EZProxy URL will be used only for already searched references, when you tap the full text url of the reference.

2. Currently Bookends for iOS doesn’t create bibliography, because usually Bookends for Mac generates final in-text citations and creates a bibliography. We've added a few initial steps to creating a bibliography using Siri Shortcuts commands:

And more in-app functionality will be added later, but at this moment it’s a task for our main app on Mac, which you do not use though.

3. There are a few ways of getting citations on iOS, it’s described in the “Citations” section in our docs:

And also you can drag and drop any reference or do a long tap for a contextual menu with options, and one more way is using external keyboard: Command - Y (citation), Command - K (formatted citation).
