ordering of custom text in citations

Post by ozean »

I just stumbled upon this behavior, where Bookends rendered a citation differently of what I would have expected

The citation in Mellel is:

Code: Select all

\see for example \Pickering, 1995, #26710; Haraway, 1991, #69241
I have selected the Amer Sociological Association ASA format, which seems to require that citations are ordered alphabetically. Because of this, the authors in the above citation have to be reordered. This is what happens along with the reordering:

(Haraway 1991; see for example Pickering 1995)

instead of the outcome that I would have expected:

(see for example Haraway 1991; Pickering 1995)

I don't know if there are actual cases where one might prefer Bookends to handle things the way it does now, but in my case it did not do what I expected. What do you think?

HI,

This has been discussed in another thread (can't remember which). The "prefix" belongs to the citation, not the citation group. So it moves with the citation. If you want them reordered, place the quoted text outside the citation group:

...(see for example {*cites})

The asterisk after the {* tells Bookends to forego the enclosing parentheses when it replaces the temp citation.
