Could not import FormatLib since updating to 10.5.4

Post by suavito »

In installed Bookends 10.5.4 twice, first via automatic update then again from a full download version.

When I start it I get this error message:
No FormatLib.png
No FormatLib.png (33.35 KiB) Viewed 10361 times
The mentioned file does not exist in that place, I checked that out.

I can open a database but haven't touched anything more to not cause any damage to it.

What can I do (I have saved the old files from the trash)?

Hi,

I think this is a spurious error message. What version of Mac OS X are you running?

I've uploaded a new build that I hope will get rid of this message. Please download it once more and see if it works for you now.

Hi,
I've got the same pb,even with the new build. However, when I try to open my biblio a second time it works.
Also, I can download one reference from results in google scholar, but as soon as a try do import a second one, BE quit immediately.

I'm on OS 10.5.7

Please Rebuild the database.

BTW, what OS are you using?

I'd like everyone who has the "can't open FormatLib" error to tell me what version of Mac OS X they are using.

Thanks,

10.5.7
My groups have been destroyed during the rebuild though...

Thanks for the OS info -- very odd, that's what I'm using and cannot reproduce this error.

You should Rebuild (Keep User Info) and the groups will be retained, as well as any other database-associated settings.

The rebuild was for the crash the olivier reported. That has nothing to do with the FormatLib problem.

I still can't reproduce this error on two machines, and most people aren't having a problem, so there seems to be an issue that's affecting a subset of systems. I'm using 10.5.7 on Intel and PPC with no problems. The error message some people are seeing is a spurious one (FormatLib is in fact found and loaded) and I've had reports that the database can be opened after launch via the FIle menu. Bookends seems to be fully functional at that point.

If anyone sees anything that might provide a clue to why some systems are having this problem, please post here or contact us directly.

Thanks,

That might be a clue. I can indeed open the database via the File menu; it's the open-upon-launch that isn't working. I have to open the database via the File menu (i.e. the problem doesn't go away after the first launch).

It was a clue, and tells us that the error is spurious. If the library really could not be opened, Bookends would be unable to format references (you'd get the error message whenever you tried).
