Online Search

Post by Blot »

I apologize if this has been covered elsewhere.
On campus, trying to use 'online search' I get the 'error: unable to connect' message.
I'm connected to the internet and use 'online search' at home without problem.
It might be the way I connect to the internet on campus, proxy servers etc.

Does anyone have experience with this sort of thing?
I couldn't find anything in the manual.

Thanks
Jon

Hi,

If you are behind a proxy server, make sure that you've entered the correct proxy info in System Preferences. If it's an authenticating proxy server, you need to enter the name/password in Bookends preferences.

I am behind a Proxy server and have already entered it into System Preferences, that is, the internet in general works fine.
Do I need to change any settings in Bookends itself so that it will work with the proxy server?
Thanks again

You shouldn't need to unless it's an authenticating proxy server -- the the user name and password need to be entered in Bookends preferences. And it will work for online searches that use the Library of Congress gateway -- not direct z39.50 searches. The user guide has details.
