best way to get data, given doi

Post by nicka »

I have a pdf of a journal article, downloaded from the internet. I also have a DOI, although it's not in the pdf itself. What is the best way to proceed? The 'Autocomplete' option doesn't seem to be much help: Google Scholar doesn't seem to recognise the DOI (10.1111/j.0066-7372.2003.00056.x).

The best way is to paste the doi into the doi field, then Refs -> Autocomplete From Internet. That particular doi won't work, however, because it's not recognized by the reference aggregators Bookends uses to get metadata (e.g PubMed and Google Scholar, or Amazon for isbns).

Thanks very much for the reply. (I should have also said I knew it wouldn't work with PubMed -- they don't do philosophy/linguistics!)

I'm guessing that there isn't anywhere else Bookends could look for DOIs (or you would have built it in to Bookends already). Still, if anyone has any ideas I'd be happy to have them. It's frustrating to have a number that should lead straight to the metadata and have instead to go back to the old method of coaxing an ris file out of a publisher's website.
