inserting a citation in Word or Pages

Post by George »

Hi there,

I am lost inserting a citation, having read through the user manual and the tutorial and still not working. Here the proof:

Test (Alkhalifa & AlDallal, 2002; Alkhalifa & AlDallal, 2002; Alkhalifa & AlDallal, 2002; Alkhalifa & AlDallal, 2002)

(Alkhalifa & AlDallal, 2002; Alkhalifa & AlDallal, 2002; Alkhalifa & AlDallal, 2002; Alkhalifa & AlDallal, 2002)

Reference

Alkhalifa, E. M., & AlDallal, L. (2002). Mirror Modeler: A Web Based Interactive Mathematics Modeling System. Paper presented at the International Conference on Computers in Education (ICEE 2002), Auckland.

What did I do?:

select reference in Bookends
in Word (dito Pages) choose insert citation; that's what I got:

{Alkhalifa and AlDallal, 2002, International Conference on Computers in Education (ICEE 2002), 102-104}

then, I scan the document and what happens is this:

(Alkhalifa & AlDallal, 2002; Alkhalifa & AlDallal, 2002; Alkhalifa & AlDallal, 2002; Alkhalifa & AlDallal, 2002)

totally unusable. A bit annoying since I should be working and writing on the paper instead of spending so much time on the citation. Sorry.

also, why do I got so many .formatted .... formatted.formatted.formatted documents on my desktop because everytime I tried a scan again, I was asked this question, even if I chose "hide extension", the files heap up as seen in the attachment.

any help is really appreciated.
cheers

You're doing two things wrong.

First, (I think) you have set the comma as your citation separator in Preferences. It should be semicolon.

Second, you cannot rescan Pages documents. The scanned (.formatted) document is final. If you need to edit and rescan, do that to the original. (You can scan and rescan Word, Mellel, Nisus Writer Pro, and RTF documents, but not Pages or OpenOffice Writer 3).

Hi Jon,

thank you very much for your post (working last night very late, so, I 'm sorry for the late response). I have switched to MS Word because of time constraints.

Kindest regards,
George
