Drag'n'Drop from PubMed not working?

Post by kga1978 »

Hi,

I'm using 11.0.4 and whenever I try to import a reference by dragging and dropping from PubMed it fails.

If I drag the full url from Safari, e.g.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20439981

nothing happens and the program becomes very slow. I also tried to drag a 'Summary' link directly from Google Chrome after which the normal select import format box came up (not normal behaviour). I chose 'PubMed', but the imported reference was blank.

This used to work fine in earlier versions - any idea what is going on?

The drag 'Summary' link from Safari appears to be working

Hi,

Not only does it work for me from the PubMed site, it imports if I drag the link you posted from the forum onto a Bookends window. The clue may be that "the program becomes very slow". Try rebuilding your database. If problems persist, follow up off-forum with tech support.

Indeed, a rebuild work. However, it still isn't working from Google Chrome (now my new awesome default browser....). Is this because BE has to specifically support a browser, or is Chrome doing something 'funny'?

Thanks

Each browser handles drag and drops on it's own. I haven't tried Google Chrome, but it it's not working then it must be doing something different with the drag.

I checked Chrome. It's not including a 'url' component in the drag, just the url designated as text. Chrome is still in development on the Mac, maybe that will come.

Hey Jon,

So, Chrome is out of beta and it is rapidly gaining market shares. Any chance you can update BE to work with it as well?

Thanks

Hi,

I took a quick look, and Chrome is too stupid to identify a url as a url. I'll think about workarounds, though.

OK, done. You'll be able to drag and drop PubMed reference links from Google Chrome to Bookends and they'll be imported (in the next update of Bookends).
