find and replace problems

I am having find and replace problems. Importing from ATLA/Ebscohost I guess isn't UTF-8 or something, because accented characters are all screwy. In the past I have been able to just do find and replaces, but Bookends will not find anything now. I am searching for ?© (for example) which is not a word by itself, but characters within a word, and Bookends won't find it in order to replace it. Any suggestions?
