Having recently upgraded to Bookends 11(.0.4), I'm experiencing a problem where my custom formats are not appearing in the Formats Manager. They *are* appearing under the Default Format > menu option, and the formatting pane is showing the relevant format. They also appear in the Print References... and Print Bibliography... dialog boxes.
Furthermore, I've observed that in the Finder the custom formats files don't have Bookends-style logos -- only blank documents. If I go into the Formats Manager and create a new custom format (which then appears in the list, as it should, in bold), this new format file appears in the Finder with the Bookends logo.
Any idea why these old custom formats are not showing up in the Formats Manager? I must have missed something in the changeover from version 10. Do they need upgrading somehow?

Re: Custom formats not appearing in Formats Manager
Hi,
Sounds like they lost their Finder metadata. They be
Creator: BERB
Type: BEF0 -- that's a zero
You can use an app like FileType (free, and available via VersionTracker) to reset them.

Re: Custom formats not appearing in Formats Manager
That did the trick -- many thanks!
An earlier bug(?) that I experienced before, possibly somewhat related to this, was the Formats Manager refusing to load properly owing to incorrectly set file write permissions. (Running OS X 10.6.3 -- I've had a few of these problems under Snow Leopard where things that have worked fine before suddenly started complaining about file read/write permissions.)
Perhaps you know about this ... if not, I could attempt to reproduce it. I didn't report it because I think I fixed it by selecting all the formats in the Bookends folder in Applications and setting read/write permissions for my user account.

Re: Custom formats not appearing in Formats Manager
The permissions problem arises from time to time -- I don't know why some people run into this, the vast majority do not. It has nothing to do with Bookends, it's the Finder (or the OS). Often simply reinstalling Bookends fixes it -- the same files are dragged into the Applications folder from the same .dmg and now permission are OK. If anyone has a plausible explanation for this I'd like to hear it.
