Unmatched citations

Post by Purpendicular »

Hi

I use word 2008 on MacOS X 10.6.4 and export in the default format with Content to insert temporary citations.

In my document, I have the following:

{Hanson, 2001, Carnage and Culture - Landmark Battles in the Rise of…\, p. 138\}

where I have added the page number within backslashes.
When scanning, Bookends complains that it cannot find for example the following "Unmatched citation"
(Hanson, 2001, Carnage and Culture - Landmark Battles in the Rise of…c, p. 138)

There are a number of such incidences in three files so far. For the "Unmatched citations" bookends always adds a "c" and then complains that it cannot find the reference in the database.
If I then press "Find…", and remove the "c", Bookends finds the reference immediately (then I have no idea how to proceed to get it into the document, but that is another newbie-question).
This only happens for a few of these citations, other identical ones elsewhere in the same document work. It seems to only affect citations ending with "…", at least so far, and only instances where I have added escaped page numbers. I have tried reexporting the temporary citations a few times, without any luck.

I'm on vacation out of the country at the moment, so I can't troubleshoot this.

I suggest you change the temp citation Bookends generates from "Content" to "Author, Date, Unique ID" (in preferences). Then proofread your document (a Bookends scan, check proofread) so the temp citations are converted to this new format. This should clear up this problem (please see the User Guide about proofreading scans, if they're not familiar to you).

Thanks for you suggestion. It worked. I also took the opportunity to swap to Nisus Writer Pro. It only had one unmatched reference, and then when I followed your advice it all went swimmingly.
