Problems on a new Mac

Hello,

I have changed computers, still, I am on the Mac. I am on 10.6.4 and my Bookends version is 11.0.9.

I have imported, from the old Mac to the new one, the important elements of Bookends, and DL a fresh version of BE and installed it.

I am trying to create new references DB and has some difficulties compared to my work on the former Mac.
The first picture shows the References DB and the Format Manager.
There, in the Format manager, I can see that the line with the author name doesn't continue with the article title and other details which come underneath. What should I do to bring back the order in the presentation of the citation.


In the second screen picture I show what happens when I am try to create a citation reference in Mellel, after clicking on Copy Citation button I get the whole reference and not the symbol for it as it was in the past.
What should I do to repair the problem.


I have done here two attempts to repair the problem in the preference pane but apparently I failed.

Your explanations as to how to solve the problem will be highly appreciated since I have to complete an assignment and the bibliography is essential.

The problem shown in the last screen picture was not yet solved.
I have scanned the Mellel document, and got the result showed in the attached picture.
The line showing that the citation is still broken, and I wish to have it in a continuing line as it is usually. And of course, I do not need colors in the citation, so please, where can I configure it?

Raymond, my guess is that there is a line break (a.k.a. return) symbol in one or several of your fields.

Please check every single field for this reference and look if you accidentally entered a line break (for example, after the year number, after the title, etc.) You need to use the cursor keys to carefully move through each entry and pay particular attention if there are line breaks at the beginning or the end of the entry in the field.

In addition, I see that some of the fields of the reference have a different font. I guess this is because you entered the contents via copy & paste. Having different fonts might cause confusion later. I would therefore recommend to change a setting in the bookends preferences: Assign Command-V to Paste Plain Text (see screenshot)

Changing this setting will make all future entries use the default font settings. (And you can override the setting by pressing Alt-Command-V when pasting.)

I guess Jon has already told you this, but I’ll also state it here just in case: You should probably also normalize the fonts in all of your existing entries - maybe except if you need different fonts for different language (like Hebrew etc. – I do not know enough about this to make a good recommendation in such a case). To normalize font settings in your entries, go to Refs > Global Change > Restore Default Font & Size… (Maybe it would be a good idea to make a backup of your database before you do this, since these kinds of changes cannot be undone.)

Thanks for all these instructions. Your help as well as that of Jon helped me to overcome the difficulties I had.

I have changed the preferences as you proposed, because it is easier for me to copy and paste, especially titles of articles, to save time and mistakes, for me.
I hope now things will be better as it was in the past.
