Exporting to Filemaker

Post by Kevastan »

I am having trouble exporting from BE and importing into Filemaker (FM). FM will not read the tab-delimited text format in which I export records. In the past, I have found this works: export from BE as tab-delimited text, open that with Excel, save the Excel file then import records from Excel into FM. In my work I have to track the flow of manuscripts and FM allows me to do such things as logging which reviewer has received a manuscript and the date it was sent/returned etc. (BE is fantastic for everything else but does not stretch to that).

I am posting on forums.filemaker to find out why FM does not open the tab-delimited text. But can anyone suggest another output that would work?

I have encountered another problem for the first time and the problem is with Excel. When saving the text file, it no longer saves the whole of the abstract. Another good reason to find an alternative to my previous method.

The only change I have made is to upgrade to Lion. I have Bookends 10.6.4, Excel for Mac 12.1.5 and Filemaker Pro Advance 11.

I'd take a look at the text file in a text editor (e.g. TextWrangler) and see what Bookends is really outputting. It sounds like there is something different in Excel and/or FileMaker that's causing the problem. BTW, if you're looking for tech support, this is not the right venue.
