Perhaps the best way to deal with this is to allow both. If there is no note below the header, the header is full size. If there is a note, the header is half-height and the note comprises the bottom half of the cell. So the user (you) have full control over how it looks.

Looks great, Jon. One thing you might consider is indenting notes that are related to a header to distinguish between those attached to a header & those that are not. Sorta the opposite of what you had originally.

That might be good. I'll keep it as is for now, and after release I'd ask people commenting in this thread to provide feedback to see if it can be improved.
