This is easy to reproduce - just display a reference with notes as RIS, copy the RIS formatted citation, and then import from clipboard. The N1 field will be moved to AB. Is there a workaround, perhaps directly importing to a user field instead of notes?
I've confirmed this with the current version 11.2.8, but I believe this has been an issue for a while now. At some point I noticed that journals from which I would often import references stopped putting the DOIs in the notes and field and started putting in the abstract field. Now I realize that the journal probably didn't change anything. (why journals would put the doi in the N1 field as opposed to the DO field is another question.)
N1 - field in RIS imports to abstract
Re: N1 - field in RIS imports to abstract
I don't remember why it was mapped this way originally, probably because I had RIS files where the abstract field was stored in N1. Bookends actually moves AB,N1, and N2 to Abstract by default. But it's trivial to modify yourself. Just open the RIS filter (File -> Import Filter Manager) and move the tag so it imports into whichever field you want.

Done. Thanks. (Didn't realize bookends included that functionality)
