Hi,
I am beginning to experiment with LaTeX / BibLaTeX and consider dumping word processors in favor of the venerable typesetting system.
I am not yet confident enough to make a non-reversible transition. As far as bibliography styles go, the process is risk-free since I am working on fresh BibLaTeX styles and do not touch my old Chicago/Mellel styles.
Bookends preferences however are global and not tied to bibliographic styles. I am especially referring to capitalization exceptions, as well as bibliographic item types (book, article, etc.) and the assignment of their UserN placeholders to each field label (title, author, date, etc.).
Ideally, such preferences would be embedded in the Bookends database or, alternatively, stored in "profiles" and retrievable at will. Given that this is currently impossible though, which preference files should I back up to fully and safely save/restore different preference states?
Thank you.
PS: One may argue that such a process is unnecessary since field labels are invariant (describing the individual item and not tied to any bibliography style or system). While this would be a valid objection, different styles require different fields, and having unused or irrelevant fields in the "edit reference" view is confusing.
Backing up preferences — Using different BE 'profiles'
Re: Backing up preferences — Using different BE 'profiles'
There is only one preference file: ~/Library/Application Support/Bookends/Bookends 11 Preferences
Remember that in Lion and later, to get to your Library folder you must hold down the Option key and select Go -> Library in the Finder.

Thanks, Jon, and sorry for being lazy
If there is any space at all in your todo list, perhaps you could consider implementing "profiles" in a future version. Not a killer feature by any means, but it could come in handy, especially for those experimenting with BibLaTex (i.e. an almost ridiculous number of fields compared to BibTex and other traditional systems).
