Delicious Library Author Import

Post by tedg »

I have a couple thousand books nicely catalogued in DL. I really like that I can import them into BE.

But DL manages author names first last, while I have BE set up conventionally for last, first.

Are there any tips to make the translation. As it stands, the DL import is pretty hard to work with.

DL exports as BibTeX. You can configure the BibTeX filter in Bookends to expect surname last and have it automatically convert to surname first.

Also, Bookends has Refs -> Global Change -> Standardize Names, which will do the same for references already in the database. Note that compound surnames (e.g. Ralph Vaughn Williams) will need to be fixed manually, changed from Williams, Ralph Vaughn to Vaughn Williams, Ralph).

Gosh. There doesn't seem to be anything BE can't do!

I really need to read the docs.

I suggest that you skim the table of contents. That alone will bring to light useful features that you might not have thought of, and if you click on a topic you'll be taken to a section of the user guide that covers it in detail.
