Suppress volume number in series

Post by ycrnx29 »

Hi,
I've tried various options from the User Guide, but can't seem to find a way of keeping the correct formatting for a book reference which is part of a series but doesn't have a volume no.

My current formatting is as follows:

a. d. t. (j v) l: u.

which happily gives the following output when there *is* a number in the volume field

Picard, G.C. 1954. Les Religions de l’Afrique antique. (Civilisations d’hier et d’aujourd’hui 10.) Paris: Plon.

but loses the final closing parenthesis when there *isn't* a number in the volume field:

Picard, G.C. 1954. Les Religions de l’Afrique antique. (Civilisations d’hier et d’aujourd’hui Paris: Plon.

Thanks for any help

There are lots of ways to deal with this. Please see the user guide for how Bookends handles "missing" fields. Perhaps the easiest to understand conceptually is conditional groups. Here's one way (but there are others) you could use them to deal with a missing volume field in your format:

a. d. t. ({j v^j}) l: u.
