Do Not Abbreviate Series in Bibliography

Post by stig77 »

I searched for "abbreviate series" and no topics appeared, so here goes.

In SBL (Society of Biblical Literature) bibliography format, the series should not be abbreviated. (It is ok to abbreviate in the note, just not the bib.) I downloaded the SBL format available online, but the bibliography that is created abbreviates the series in the bibliography. How do I tell Bookends not to abbreviate the series in the bibliography. (Everything is ok in the note.)

If it matters, I'm using Bookends with Mellel.

Thanks

What do you mean by the series should not be abbreviated? The Series Title? If so, what have you entered, and what is Bookends outputting?

Series title, correct. As an example, In Bookends the series title reads Handbuch zum Neuen Testament. Volume number in this case is 5

The footnote comes out correctly: Michael Wolter, Das Lukasevangelium (HNT 5; Tübingen: Mohr Siebeck, 2008),

The bibliography, however, reads: Wolter, Michael. Das Lukasevangelium. HNT 5. Tübingen: Mohr Siebeck, 2008. The series title should be spelled out in the bibliography, not abbreviated.

Thanks for your help

So you're using a journal glossary, right? You can't have that apply to a footnote but not a bibliographic entry, it will be used for both. If you really need these to be different in different places, you'll have to manage two different forms of the title yourself. As in, keep the full series title in the title field, and enter the short form in another field (say, User 1). And in the format, tell Bookends to use one for footnotes and one for bibliographies.

Just figured out that I needed to select "Full Ser Title" (f) instead of "Ser Title" in the Formats Manager in the Bibliography section. Works perfectly now.

Hm, well, yes, that'll do it, too! Sorry I didn't come up with that right away.

stig77, I see that you're using the SBL format successfully. I've just tried to download and install these (the ones created by Zacharias), and they don't seem to be working with Bookends 12. Jon confirmed that they're outdated now.

Are you using them with Bookends 12, and if so how did you get them to work? Thanks for any advice you have.
