After reinstalling BE 11, "Can't open format!"

Post by alarob »

I have reinstalled BE 11 after facing problems with testing BE 12. Now, every time I open a DB or select a record, a dialog box appears:

In addition, I cannot display formatted citations. In fact, the error message only appears if I have View >> Formatted selected when I select a record. And the window that should display a formatted citation is blank.

Now what?

I think I found the answer in Jon's post to the "Upgrade issue" thread. Quoting:

1. Trash the file ~/Library/Application Support/Bookends/Installed Version.txt

2. If you had opened any custom formats, find the unconverted (11.x-compatible) version in ~/Library/Application Support/Bookends/Custom Formats before Bookends 12

and move it to the Custom Formats folder (replacing the one that Bookends converted).

3. Launch Bookends 11 -- it will populate the Formats folder with the factory-default 11.x formats, and you can use them with Bookends 11.

I post this note of thanks with the text of the problem in the hope that the search engines will index this page and better enable those suffering similarly to find it.

The solution posted above (and suggested by alarob) solved the problem when I received the following error message in Bookends:-

Can't open format! Error: Database version is "624". But the current version is "608".. 333058
