Nisus Writer Pro integration

Post by swilcox »

I don't know if this is a Bookends or a NWP issue. I've posted on their forum, and also now here.

I'm using a demo of NWP to see if I want to upgrade from NW Express. My primary reason to upgrade is Bookends integration. However, I seem to have a problem.

When I try to use a cited pages custom citation ("citation@xx"), and then scan the document, NWP returns an empty/blank citation in the text. The complete citation does appear in the bibliography of the document.

I've used this cited pages format in Pages and in Mellel, and it works perfectly. So I'm not sure what the problem is with NWP.

Thanks for any help.

It's working for me. Make sure you're using the latest versions of both Bookends and NWP. If you still have problem, please contact tech support with examples (document, database) so I can try to reproduce it.

Yes, I'm using the latest Bookends. It's the demo version (downloaded yesterday) of NWP, so I assume it's the latest. I'll check.

I've run some more tests, and I am getting apparently random behavior, or at least I can't see a pattern yet. I now have seen correctly formatted output, but not always.

If I insert citations as here
CitationCited3.tiff
CitationCited3.tiff (53.17 KiB) Viewed 6382 times
I sometimes get formatted output:
CitationCited3OK.tiff
CitationCited3OK.tiff (143.76 KiB) Viewed 6382 times
Other times, though, I get blank output:
CitationCitedBad.tiff
CitationCitedBad.tiff (138.45 KiB) Viewed 6382 times
Notice that there is a space where the entire formatted citation should appear.

I am changing the document in three ways: (1) sometimes by adding a newly typed citation, and then scanning, (2) sometimes by unscanning, then scanning again, and (3) sometimes by scanning, then unscanning and revising an existing citation (add a cited pages format, or add % to exclude author in the formatted citation), and then scanning again. I can't see a pattern: sometimes any one of these ways will produce correctly formatted citations, other times it will produce a blank citation (in combination with correctly formatted citations).

I wish I could be clearer about this. I'm happy to send a simple Nisus document and my Bookends database.

Oh, also, I'm using NWP 2.05 (demo) and Bookends 12.0.3.

Thanks for the great support, Jon.

If you have a sentence with a citation that is reproducibly incorrect, please send me that document (with just that citation, I don't want it confused with other citations) and your database, both zipped. I have to be able to reproduce the bad scan here.
