Sort references with the Swedish alphabet

Post by ed »

Hi,

I'm using the latest version of Bookends and I'm writing my thesis in Mellel. I was have just done a proofreading of the text I have written and noticed that it sorted the bibliography wrong. I have written the thesis in Swedish. It shows Mårtenson before Mattsson. I have tried checking the long Bookends manual but not found any help concerning sorting bibliography in other languages. Is it possible?

Bookends does a unicode sort, and that's how they come out (you can see the same thing in the reference list view if you tell Bookends to sort by Unicode in preferences). It's possible that the sort would come out differently if one set the locale to Swedish, but that's not an option.

Thanks for the quick reply. I have unicode as sorting preference and when viewing in list view it does a correct alphabetical orden but when I insert the bibliography in Mellel it does an incorrect sorting.

Here is the correct sorting in list view.

Actually, I got the "incorrect" sorting in the list view because I'm using a US OS. The code that sorts the list and the bibliography is different. As I said, the sort would be correct if the database locale setting was Swedish (instead of English). Related languages often sort accented characters a bit differently. But you can't set that in Bookends. It's perhaps something that could be added in a future update.

BTW, although you can't set the locale, I can. If you zip and send me a copy of your library I'll change it to Swedish and send it back. You can see if it now sorts the way you want.
