Custom hypertext output

Post by Nhaps »

Would like to know whether Copy Formatted Links can be customized (for output). For example, I would like to have just the record number (rather than bookends://sonnysoftware.com), or the key(user1) rather than the whole reference title.

I assume you mean Edit -> Copy HyperText Link.

Sure -- in preferences (first tab) tell Bookends to use a format to create the hypertext link.

Thanks, I meant Edit, Copy HyperText link. But the problem remains. There are only two options under Hypertext reference links (in the first panel of Preferences), Title and BibTex. I tried the BibTex but in addition to the user1/key, it added author, title, and subtitle in the link. As for the "bookends plus sonnysoftware" they continue to output as well under BibTex. So both options, Title and BibTex cannot be customized AFAIK. Is there a way to do that?

Well, you have to mark (check) the formats that are to be made available in popup menus for output (in Biblio -> Formats Manager). Then you'll see them in the popup menu. And of course you can create or edit formats to output whatever you want in the Formats Manger. You can customize them as you like.

Thanks. I had to create another format to output the key (w), don't know if this is the only way to do this. The result is this: authoryear, which is what I want. Now, why is "w" not included in the fields column; had to spend some time tryint to find it.

The real name of the Key field is User1, and it is there in the popup (u1). Using the letter w to mean user1 is ancient and supported only for backward compatibility (with Bookends 6 and earlier, I believe -- I probably should remove it, it shouldn't be used).

Thanks for letting me know this. When I decided to use LaTeX about a year ago I started using the BibTex format that came with BE, and "w" is present throughout in it. So now I am changing the first line in each one to reflect "u1".

That's how old the BibTeX format is! I'll update it, too.

BTW I use now BibLaTex, the successor of BibTex.
