Hey folks,
Let me know your thoughts on this. In my recent email conversation with Jon, I enquired him whether it was normal for Bookends to drop both the name of the author and the editors in case, e.g., a chapter in an edited volume. His answer was yes.
In my view, this is not very practicable. Let me give you an example: I've already used the author's name in the main body and hence want to use a reference without his or her name (for the sake of word count, etc)—a normal procedure in humanities writing. But, if the essay is an edited volume, not only is the author's name omitted, but also that of the editor(s) of the volume. What appeared to be a very useful feature, then, ends up causing me more complications than deleting the author's name manually in the finished manuscript.
Could this (amazing) feature be refined somewhat?
a feature request: more options for dropping of names

But you may legitimately want to exclude the editor's name when citing an edited book (in fact, that was part of the original feature request, if I remember correctly). I won't add another metacharacter to distinguish between authors and editors. However, it might be enough for Bookends to check if the reference is a book chapter, and if so, leave the editors alone.

Yes indeed, Jon. That would be just fine! Thanks in advance for considering that.

This shouldn't be hard to do. Look for it in the next update.
