Undo or not undo, that is the question

I'm having some trouble undoing editing changes in the fields of the reference editor: the author field, for example. I haven't experimented to identify clearly the scope of the phenomenon, but several times when the highlight has not been where I thought it was (not sure why!), I've deleted some crucial information, such as the authors, and been unable to undo the change.

Bookends uses the standard Cocoa text fields for database entries. There is no custom undo code, so I can't shed any light on what might have happened.
