I had a catastrophic hard drive failure recently. I had backups of everything, but for some reason my bookends attachments folder took a huge hit. It lost 3/4 of my PDFs. (Don't think it was a bookends issue, more of a time machine/other stuff issue.) Now, this generally isn't an issue as I can just redownload the PDF, but I annotate my PDFs, and those annotations are worth something to me.
So I grabbed my attachment folder from my backup and now I want to reattach all of those attachments, but only from that folder. I have some of the PDFs in other places as well, so I just want bookends to find these specific ones, is that possible? (Sure I could just pick out the right one, but that'd be time consuming for all of the references I have.) The find and attach also finds papers I've written that have cited the references as well, and all of the backups of those papers... etc... the list is long.
"Find and attach Local PDF" from specific folder?
Re: "Find and attach Local PDF" from specific folder?
No, sorry, that's not an option, Bookends will search the HD. One thought (haven't tried this) -- if you moved your PDF folder and Bookends (and your database) to a different drive that had no other matching PDFs, it would probably do what you want. I'd try it with a small sample first, though.

P.S. This function is helpful but not perfect. It relies on Spotlight matching of automatically generated search words (by Bookends from the reference metadata) and they won't always match.

Re: "Find and attach Local PDF" from specific folder?
Jon,
As usual, thank you for the response. I'll just take a bit of time and go through it. No problems. At least I HAD backups!
EDIT: Ah, now I know why you said it works "sometimes" and isn't perfect. Even after forcing spotlight to reindex the folder with the PDFs in it, Bookends still didn't find the PDFs. That's ok, I'm just dragging and dropping now. As usual with bookends, there's always multiple ways to do something.
