Microsoft Word 2016 question for users

Post by Jon »

We have come up with a mechanism for placing the Bookends scripts used by Word to the Word Add-in tab. It works, but uses an approach that has been deprecated by Microsoft, and which will ultimately be replaced with a more modern mechanism. When this more modern mechanism will be available is not clear, but my best guess from reading the tea leaves is in the first quarter of 2016 (I'm still collecting information about this). My question to users is: should we release a Bookends update now that works but uses a method that will be obsolete in the next 6 months, or wait until the modern Add-in APIs are available from Microsoft? How do you feel about this?

As I will be outputting in the next week or so, bird in the hand and so on... I'll take a short term temporary gesture. thanks for asking.

I prefer having the Word Add-in as it is now, and change it later whenever the more modern mechanism will be implemented.

Jon,

As long as the output is the same and only the method of inserting the citations into MS Word changes, then I support implementing the temproray solution now and then the permenant solution when Microsoft gets around to releasing their fix.

Dave

The add-on tab is not visible on my Word 2016. How do I enable this tab?

It should be automatic. Make sure that the add-ins are installed in the right locations (see the Read Me in the Help menu for the path to the installation instructions).

Dear Jon,
I have installed Microsoft Word 2016 after Bookends in my office MacMini.
What is the procedure in this case?

Just run Bookends 12.6.1 (quit Word if it's running). Then look for the Bookends functions in the Word Add-ins tab.
