Dear all,
I usually rename documents manually on my computer and store them in a folder. Sometimes I attach them to the reference in bookends. I recently discovered that Bookends somehow changes the filename, despite I leave all options for renaming the filename blank. It leaves the original file name but adds a random number.
Cervenka_The Effects of Militarization of Africa on Human Rights.pdf
Cervenka_The Effects of Militarization of Africa on Human Rights 7.pdf
Menkhaus_False Start in AFRICOM.pdf
Menkhaus_False Start in AFRICOM 349.pdf
Just to give a few examples. The number only appears after I attached the file to the reference in Bookends through the normal right-click, attach...select file procedure.
Any idea on that? This is pretty annoying.
Unfortunately, the automated attach-rename process is not an option as I work with titles and too often titles contain special characters that are not compatible with synchronizing my files through own cloud.
Many thanks
Jan
Renaming of PDF Documents attachment
Re: Renaming of PDF Documents attachment
Each attachment name must be unique. If Bookends detects another file with the assigned name in one of the folders that contain attachments, it adds a unique random number to make it unique. If it didn't you'd run the risk of Bookends calling up the wrong attachment.

Re: Renaming of PDF Documents attachment
Thank you Jon for the quick reply. I understand your explanation, though there is only one document in any of the folders stored on my PC with that exact name. Thus, I am a bit confused why bookends renames the file, especially since I do not move the files to the attachment folder.
Thanks

Re: Renaming of PDF Documents attachment
I assume you are using Bookends 12.7.6. If so, try giving the attachment a unique name (e.g. adflkjqer.pdf) and see if a number is added. If it is, please contact tech support off-forum (support@sonnysoftware.com).
