Add-In Folder Missing in Word 2016

Post by rmansfield »

Perhaps this is the result of getting a new MacBook Pro and running Migration Assistant to move everything over, but my Add-Ins tab in MS Word is missing.

Following the instructions in the Bookends User Guide, I went to Bookends: Help: Show Bookends Folder in Finder. Following the instructions in Scripts for MS Word: Microsoft Word Scripts.docx, I reinstalled both files where they should go, basically overwriting the files that were already there.

The Add-Ins folder still does not show up. Any suggestions?

Not really. Except to say that the locations of the script and files are quite different for Word 2011 and Word 2016. And you need to be using a recent version of Bookends to get it to work with Word 2016.

Yikes. In situations like these, I always assume others have had the same problem, too.

Perhaps I can offer more details. Here's what I'm using:

Bookends 12.7.7
MS Word 15.29.1

I couldn't figure out how to post images here in the forums, but here's an Evernote public link that shows placement of files. Please tell me if I'm doing something blatantly wrong that I'm missing.

Also at that link is a screenshot of Word. Note the Add-In menu is missing.

I'd be interested to know if anyone else who has this same build of Word is able to see their Add-Ins menu.

The locations look correct to me. I also have Word 15.29.1, but I see the Add-ins tab. I don't know why you don't. You might try another machine or, failing that, install Word in another account and see if it shows up now.

I've been researching this a bit, and it looks like 15.29.1 has caused all kinds of different problems, but not everyone has been affected.

A related issue seems to be that I can no longer paste as citation from Accordance Bible Software into Word and have Word properly insert a footnote as it used to do. Even though I use Bookends for my footnotes, I often used the feature out of Accordance to view the citation information to add to Bookends.
