Scanning Apple Pages documents

Post by colin »

Is anyone else having issues scanning an open Pages document?

Have tried on two different laptops (MacBook Air; MacBook Pro with Touch Bar) on macOS High Sierra and macOS Sierra.

One both, after clicking page the dialog hangs with the spinning wheel. Have left for hours on both machines. Requires a force quit.

Small document with 4-5 different sources (using to test). Have converted to RTF and scanned with no issue.

A good place to start would be to try removing portions of the document until you identify what's causing the hang.

Yes. It is not only you. I'm having this problem too.

A detailed rundown.

Open Apple Pages document.
Open Bookends, autoloaders main library
Choose in menu Biblio menu > Scan Open Apple Pages Doc command
Scan dialogue window appears, select or check items, OK.
Save dialogue window appears, make choices, Save.
Bookends freezes, spinning wheel ensues, Save dialogue box cannot be cancelled.

Nota Bene:
1. One can cancel the process in the Scan but not the subsequent Save dialogue window.
2. Making various selections within the Scan and Save dialogue windows does not impact this process.

Force Quit Applications window reports "Bookends (not responding).
Force Quit is necessary.

Reopen Bookends.
Main library does not auto-load.
Library does load from the File menu > Open command.

One the same MacBook Air with the same document in Windows, it works.

The library never autoloads after a crash. If the cause of the crash was the library this would lead to an infinite cycle of crashes.

What do you mean "One the same MacBook Air with the same document in Windows, it works.". Windows?

Sorry, really garbled that last sentence. If I take the pages doc, export it to MS Word, I can properly scan it within Word. This is the same computer using the same Bookends app.

As for the autoloading, that makes sense.

If you have a small document that shows this problem you can send it to me (along with your library) and I'll take a look.

As an update I (in a roundabout way) followed Jon's recommendation. I created a new document, then added portions from the old one. As it was not a long piece, rather testing Bookends again (in seeking a Sente replacement), this was not time consuming.

In my case, there must have been some gremlins in the original document.
