"Cloud Pop-Up Menu" + Styled Biblio Text

Post by lfwproductions »

CLOUD POP-UP MENU
Where is the "Cloud pop-up menu” as described in the Bookends User Guide? I have searched every menu and every contextual menu as well as Preferences. All I see that refers to iCloud is under File > New Library > “Download from Cloud.” I clicked this with my already-made library open and with it closed. I was taken to login to my iCloud account, which I did successfully, but then I was presented with a black "Cloud Libraries" with "Save to Mac" in gray and only "Cancel" available to click. So I was able to sign into my iCloud account, but there is no option anywhere to UPLOAD my library so that it may be synced across my computers or iOS devices.

STYLED BIBLIOGRAPHY TEXT (Chicago 17)
The USer Guide states, "To see styled text in the bibliographic output (i.e. italic or bold), both the default reference font (or any ad hoc font you use in a particular reference) and the default bibliography font must have the corresponding faces. This means, for example, if either is Lucida Grande the final output with that text will not be italicized or bolded, regardless of other settings."

I assume "corresponding faces" means must have the same font and size. But this last sentence is not only beffudling, but contradictory to the sentence that precedes it: "This means, for example, if either is Lucida Grande the final output with that text will not be italicized or bolded, regardless of other setting."

Thank you in advance for helping to make sense of both of these issues!

The cloud icon is in the lower left of the library window. Underneath the groups pane. You have to have uploaded your library to the cloud before you can download it. Please see p. 28 in the User Guide for info (with pictures) about cloud sync.

It means both fonts must have the corresponding faces (styles): italic, bold, and/or underline. Face don't mean size, it means style (all fonts have a plain style, but not all fonts have the variations).

Thank you so much, Jon, for your quick response.

RE: Cloud Pop-Up Menu

Solved. I had referre to the correct page in he User Guide before messaging this forum. The little cloud icon at the bottom of the screen was hidden until I clicked “Reaet window position” under the Window menu.

RE: Styled Bibliography (p. 266 of User Guide)

I understood and understand that “face” refers to style, i.e., italics, etc. What remains confusing how to ensure “the default reference font” corresponds to the “default bibliography font” (and wher one might ensure this), especially since I’m using the footnotes function in Scrivener, then “compile” (output) to Microsoft Word and then conduct a Bookends scan within Word. I’m sure there is something in this semantics of this User Guide instruction I’m not getting, so thanks, in advance, for your guidance.

You set the default reference (as it's shown in the Bookends library) and bibliography fonts (how it's shown in the scanned document) in Bookends preferences. They do NOT need to be the same thing (and in fact are not in the factor default settings). It has nothing to do with the word processor.

Yes, Jon, this is what I have done, but unfortunately, none of the titles of the references in the bibliography were italicized. I suppose, in this area of Bookends, I'm just a bit of a dotard :D.

But thank you so much for taking the time to respond.

With kind regards!

That's a different issue. Check Biblio -> Bibliography. Is the output set to Styled Text?
