feature request

I guess this is no easy matter, but what would make bookends absolutely fantastic (and even further ahead of Endnote than it allready is), would be an optional notes/abstract window built into "list view". For all those who, like myself, use biblio programs to take and keep long notes on books and articles. This way the program becomes a proper notes browser as well. Would make my life heaven.

Anyway, keep at it, you're doing great!

best wishes, matt

Hi mateicandea,

Thanks. But do you have Bookends 8.1? The list view has an Info Drawer that shows exactly that -- Abstract (in Concise view) and Notes (in Notes view). To see it, click on the toolbar icon with the letter 'i'. Notes are not editable in this view -- yet.

memo?

Post by dragon »

Hi Jon,

I may be asking something different than mateicandea is but I've been thinking about this for a while.
It would be handy if we can keep memo (or whatever you call it) that belongs to the file, not to each record. In this way, we can keep track of how the file was changed, or any memo.

Would it be difficult to do so? What do others think about it?

Thanks,

Dragon

Hi dragon,

If you want a place to keep comments about the db, I'd recommend using the Get Info command in the Finder and adding them there. The added benefit is that if you have Tiger, they are Searchlight accessible...

If you want to keep the comments in the db, I'd recommend devoting the first reference as a dummy -- use the abstract or notes field for your comments. This is what I do, in fact, with a database of mine.

Jon,

That's a neat simple solution. I've never thought about it.
Thanks.

Jon,

Thank you! I'm a bit embarassed that I couldn't even work that out by myself...

Anyway, the drawer is now open, and my workflow enhanced. Are there any plans to make it editable in future?

We would like to. But I can't say when.
