Syncing PDFs between the MacOS and iOS versions of Bookends

Apologies if this question is answered somewhere fairly obvious in the documentation - I haven't been able to find the answer!

I have Bookends for MacOS set up to save PDF attachments in a Dropbox folder. I'm syncing Bookends for MacOS with Bookends for iOS using iCloud, which is working great, except the attachments don't seem to available (when I click on the paper-clip icon in one of the references, nothing happens). Could anyone point me to what I'm missing here? Thank you.

You can't use Dropbox to sync with iOS, it must be iCloud Drive. Please see the setup instructions:
