View Reference in Citation Form?
I am hoping to view, copy, and paste references in citation (or footnote) format, rather than than in bibliography format. I am using MS Word for Mac 16.4 and am therefore unable to scan my documents in order to insert citations. If I select Copy Citation--Copy Formatted, I can paste the citation into my document or footnote, but only in bibliography format. I would like to be able to paste the reference in citation format. Note: I have selected the citation formats I wish to use, mainly Chicago and MLA. In both cases, citation format differs quite a bit from bibliography format. I am looking for a way to insert references in footnotes without having to edit them by hand from bibliography format into citation format. Thanks.
Re: View Reference in Citation Form?
First, why can't you scan your Word 16.4 document to insert the final citations?

Re: View Reference in Citation Form?
I am new to Bookends, so I apologize if I am missing some obvious steps, though I am trying to educate myself. I have found an online tutorial that shows how to scan a document in Word for Mac 2011: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W-mmbq6C80c). However, Word for Mac 2016 (I have version 16.14.1) does not have the "script menu" used in this video to scan the document. Is there a tutorial or set of instructions to which you can direct me for scanning Mac for Word 2016 docs using Bookends 13? Again, sorry if I'm missing something obvious, but I am having trouble finding information on using Bookends 13 with Mac for Word 2016.

Word 2016 (currently around version 16.4.1) is discussed at around 3:40 of that video tutorial. Briefly, you'll find the scripts in the Word Add-ins tab. They work identically to those in Word 2011.

P.S. In the just-released Bookends 13.1.1, you'll be able to view the in-text/footnote citation in the bottom display pane and copy/paste it if you want. Not recommended -- there are too many variations of citations/footnotes that depend on their position in the text, whether you want to add cited pages, etc. Scanning is the way to go.

Re: View Reference in Citation Form?
I greatly appreciate your help, Jon. (Reminder to self: watch the entire video next time before posting question.) I now have things working and will continue to customize. I believe I finally found a citation program that will work for me.

This is why I continue to be Bookends user and recommend it to everyone I know. Thanks Jon for adding this feature. It helps me to quickly add a formatted reference to document.

I agree with Jon, I mostly use Chicago Manual Style (CMS) and I did this manually before this feature is added. The displayed citation is the first occurrence without citing specific pages. Subsequent citations in CMS are different (in the case of books it is author's last name and short title in italics, or ibid. when applicable).
