hard to re-select/copy highlighted text in pdf viewer

In pdf viewer, I can highlight some text.
But afterwards, when I try to re-select the text, a grey box shows up around the highlighted text, giving me a hard time to select/copy. See attachment.

Is there any option to turn this off? Is it a bug or a feature, or something else?

It's a feature. You can select the highlight and remove it (Delete key).

If you want to copy the highlighted text you can do it in the note stream. Right-click on the text and select Copy Notecard.
