How to include cited paragraphs instead of pages in citation
How to include cited paragraphs instead of pages in citation
Some of my reference material must be quoted by paragraph not page number. So far I've used the @-sign in my temporary citations of these, but if I choose a format that will insert "p." in front of pages, this will of course lead to misleading citations. Hence I want my temporary citations to distinguish between paragraphs and pages, so that they could produce (Mayer 1980, p.44) as well as (Fröhlich 2020, §2). Is there an easy way to set up a custom field to do this ?
Re: How to include cited paragraphs instead of pages in citation
There is a way to do with the cited pages, but it would be a kludge. Use "literal text" instead:
{temp cite\, §2\}

Excellent thank you!
Re: How to include cited paragraphs instead of pages in citation
I cannot get that, without an unnecessary dot.
What I want:
Kearney et al., 1980, Heidegger et la question de Dieu, § 12.
What I inserted:
{Kearney et al., 1980, Heidegger et la question de Dieu #1394\, § 12.\}
What I get:
Kearney et al., 1980, Heidegger et la question de Dieu., § 12.
How can I avoid that dot before comma?
Thank you,
Nicolae

Re: How to include cited paragraphs instead of pages in citation
You'd have to edit the format and remove the period after the title (assuming the period is not in the reference itself).
You could try
{Kearney et al., 1980, Heidegger et la question de Dieu #1394@\,\ § 12.}
but I can't promise that will give you what you want.
(note that if in the format you have no punctuation set for what comes before cited pages, you can just use @, § 12. )

Re: How to include cited paragraphs instead of pages in citation
Thank you, Jon, it worked!
The style is Chicago 17th. The solution is:
{Kearney et al., 1980, Heidegger et la question de Dieu #1394@\,\ § 12}

Re: How to include cited paragraphs instead of pages in citation
Chicago 17th already uses a comma and space before cited pages. So you can simplify:
...#1394@§ 12}
Jon

...#1394@§ 12}
