I have been trying to find a way to have a note within my bibliography as a separate entry in the list (almost like a citation). It would look something like:
1. P. Ashby et al., Clin Neurophysiol 112, 431 (2001).
2. My note here, with (2) in the text where I would like the reference to be
3. W. Chen et al., Neuron (2020).
I have tried placing a dummy citation with the text of the note as an author name, but Bookends reformats it and some of the text does not come out correctly. Is there another workaround or direct way to do this?
Thanks.

Re: Notes in citations
Make a new reference Type called Note in Preferences.
If the reference, assign it to the Note Type.
Put your note in the Notes field (it just makes sense).
In the format you use, add the Note Type and in the Order field enter the shortcut for the Notes field:
n
Now you'll get your in-text number and the note in the appropriate slot in the bibliography.
