Lately, I have been having issues with Bookends Browser viewing webpages. Load times are long and Bookends uses <99% processor for 20-25 seconds, particularly when clicking on a link to a PDF. Occasionally, I even had to force quit Bookends.
The URLs where this is happening are random journals or article pages. Oddly, when I open up these URLs in Safari, Firefox, or Chrome, they open fast and PDFs downloads are almost instantaneously.
My Bookends Library has 8034 references, but I never ran into these problems with 7500 references. I did all the maintenance scripts available in Bookends, to no avail.
So any help would be appreciated.

Please contact tech support directly and send a publically-accessible (i.e. not behind a paywall) URL that causes this problem.

No, but the report in that thread affects many functions on the Mac. Moreover, many of our users use Catalina and I'm not getting other reports of this. If there is some bug in a macOS update then it will require a fix from Apple.

FYI, I saw this fix posted on another site (same problem you mentioned, but involving Safari):
Signing off from iCloud
Rebooting (essential!)
Signing in into iCloud again
