How to cite "pages only" to avoid double citation in a sentence

Post by larilela »

I've noticed that when I am introducing an author of a work prior to thei quote in a sentence , such as

{^Jones 1998 #123} found "students often had difficulty using APA style {Jones 1998 #123 @199}

this will yield a double citation in a sentence of the following kind:
Jones (1998) found "students often had difficulty using APA style" (Jones 1998, p. 199) or
Jones (1998) found "students often had difficulty using APA style" (ibid., p. 199);

When instead it should be :
Jones (1998) found "students often had difficulty using APA style" (p. 199);

How can this be achieved, without typing either "Jones (1998)" or "(p. 199)" manually ?

Loot at the metacharacter options in the User Guide (or in the Edit -> Copy Citation With Modifiers).

You can exclude the author in the second citation with -

{-Jones 1998 #123 @199}

This doesn't do the trick, as it only excludes the author name, not the year. So it will still yield :

Jones (1998) found "students often had difficulty using APA style" (1998., p. 199)

instead of :

Jones (1998) found "students often had difficulty using APA style" (p. 199).

In this sense the modifier - is doing the same as % for me, and there doesn't seem to be a possibility of combining them. Any other thought how I could achieve this ?

No, there's no option to ignore everything in the citation except Cited Pages. Just type the page number in the body of the text.
