Feature Request: Expand logic on remove dupicates

Post by DrJJWMac »

The search for duplicates option provides this logic below for removing them.

If two references are duplicates, the one with fewer attachments is removed. If the number of attachments is of the same, the one that has less information in Notes is removed. If the Notes are the same, the reference that does not belong to a static group is removed. If all of these conditions are the same, the reference that appears earlier in the library (i.e. has a lower sequential number) is removed.

I would like also to have removal check the DOI and abstract fields. If two references are duplicates, removal should be made based on this logic ...

* The one with fewer attachments is removed
* The one with less information in Notes is removed
* The one that does not belong to a Static Group is removed
* The one without a DOI is removed
* The one with less information in the Abstract is removed
* The one that appears earlier in the library (has a lower Sequence Number) is removed

I would feel more secure to do an automatic removal across 10's to 100 duplicates when I know that I was not loosing a DOI or an abstract in the process with duplicates that have the same title (and authors for example).

I'll have to think about edge cases, but sure I'll consider it.
