What is the checkbox for!?

Post by michaelAF »

Hello,

Who can help me understand the checkbox next to each reference in my library?

I have scoured the user guide and forum, but can't find any info.

Thanks so much!

Checking the checkbox puts the selected reference into the Hits List category. Some subsequent menu operations allow you to use select only the references in the Hits List as an option.

Think of this checkbox as a way to select from a longer list of references only those that you want to process in a subsequent operation all at the same time.

As a further hint (that I only recently learned), shift clicking will select or deselect all references in the current view, be it that you are viewing All or a Group. This "select/deselect all at once" approach can save you from selecting a longer list one at a time.

A little additional info: the Hits List is defined on p.17 of the User Guide (Help menu) and mentioned where appropriate throughout.

The Shift-click is a nice shortcut (I use it myself all the time), but if you forget it there is also a menu option Refs -> Mark, which has several handy submenu options.
