Comma, Colons, etc. in Formats

Post by sebheck »

I am going nuts with trying to figure out a particular formatting problem.
In the 'Formats Manager' for the bibliography, I have defined the order for the 'book' format like this:

a, t, j, v (l: u, d)

j=series title, v=volume

Now, it works fine with books that have series title and volume. But if they don't, I end up with an extra comma (the one after 'title') that I cannot get rid for the life of me...

The user guide tells me that a comma should not appear when the next entry is empty (which it is!). But it still appears!
What am I doing wrong??? I have a bunch of papers to format which are due soon...! Please help! Thank you kindly!
