a few questions/issues on using BE

Post by K1 »

1. Apologies if this is in the user guide somewhere, but how I would add a comment to a citation such as (Smith, p. 23, emphasis omitted). If you use "pp" I think it will work just to add it on, but if you have a single page, adding a comma will turn it to "pp" or you have to add the comment without using a comma.

2. Also, I didn't understand the section on "Ibid." in the user guide. Can you use it and have it refer to the reference in case it gets moved?

3. Finally, when I was scanning my document (using Word X), it was getting hung up indefinitely until I moved the mouse and then it finished scanning. Is this a known issue?

I'm not sure I understand. But you could have the above output like this:

{Smith, 2004\, p. 23, emphasis omitted\}

If checked, Ibid. is inserted if two consecutive footnotes are to the same reference. If you move the citation and rescan, the Ibid would be replaced by the full footnote.
3. Finally, when I was scanning my document (using Word X), it was getting hung up indefinitely until I moved the mouse and then it finished scanning. Is this a known issue?
Someone told me that happened once, but it wasn't reproducible. I've never seen this behavior.

Thanks, I didn't know how to use the backslash yet. One more question: I'm trying to use "F.A." in a title so it doesn't get changed to "F.a." when the title is capitalized. I tried to add it to the Sentence & Title Case list, but it didn't work.

I'll have to look into it.

The . is causing the problem -- Bookends interprets this as the end of sentence (and hence end-of-word). I'll modify Bookends so that a period not followed by a space is not considered end-of-word, so entering "F.A." in the list of words to ignore should work. Try this in the next beta...
