Proxy with authentication?

Post by schere »

Hi!

I was wondering if I can use my universities proxy with Bookends?!?! Normally, I have to login with my username and password, but I did not find the option for that in Bookends' Internet preferences?

thanks,
wolfgang

Hi, Bookends lets you set the proxy server and port, but there is no provision for authentication I'm afraid.

Use the university proxy via System Preferences

I have the same problem. I manually activate and deactivate the proxy in System Preferences.

Open System Preferences,
Select Network > Configure > Proxies
Check "Web Proxy"
Fill out the information, including authentication
Apply Now

Now leave the Network pane open, and start using Bookends. When you are done, uncheck "Web Proxy" and hit Apply Now. Now, any time you work with Bookends, you can check "Web Proxy" and it will re-enable the username / password /etc. Not graceful or simple, but easy.

I'm not sure if this will work in your case, but at my former school I was told by a librarian that setting up a VPN would work as well (I wanted to search specific databases withing the university library).
