Annoying BibTex export problem

Post by pds1602 »

A reference with an attached PDF has the name of the PDF put in the keynote field. However, the name has a non-printable character appended to it which causes it to fail to open in BibDesk.

Also, accented characters aren't being converted to bibtex format on export.

Did you check on 'Convert to TeX' in Preferences (BibTeX tab)?

If so, contact me directly with the characters that aren't being converted and I'll look into it. The same with the pdf file -- send it to me (zipped) or at least the name.

Sorry, I wasn't clear about the PDF. The problem is that the *name of the pdf file* that is put in the bibtex file has illegal characters added to it.

Same problem...

Hmmm, I don't really understand why Local-Url is in Keywords. Can I specifiy it going elsewhere and still have Attach? Also, there's a problem with the semi-colon after the file name.

Here's an example of a file, without and with:

@Proceedings{,
author = {Babchuk, Wayne A},
title = {Glaser or Strauss?: Grounded Theory and Adult Education},
booktitle = {Glaser or Strauss?: Grounded Theory and Adult Education},
year = {1997},
keywords = { }}

@Proceedings{501522,
author = {Benelli, Giuliano and Caporali, Maurizio and Rizzo, Antonio and Rubegni, Elisa},
title = {Design concepts for learning spatial relationships},
booktitle = {Design concepts for learning spatial relationships},
volume = {SIGDOC '01: Proceedings of the 19th annual international conference on Computer documentation},
publisher = {ACM Press New York, NY, USA},
address = {Sante Fe, New Mexico, USA},
pages = {22Ã

In the next update the bullet character will be escaped properly. If there is an issue deeper than that, please conact us directly.

Thanks, but is there an answer to the other (implied) issue?

Thanks for such a swift response, Jon. It really is appreciated.

However, I'm still wondering why the Local-Url (ie the file name of the attached file) has to go into Keywords at all. BibDesk, for example, puts it in a field called Local-Url and exports it in that field, which seems to be a standard (boy, I feel uncomfortable writing that!) Bibtex field. I use other software for linking keywords and annotation (Synapsen) so this is important to me, but then again, it's a minority issue.

Many thanks

Oops, sorry, just saw the 'contact us directly' - will do.
