Importing Problem

Post by CTurner »

I'm using the UNC Book import filter that comes standard with Bookends.

I'm suddenly not able to import listings from the online database, though I haven't changed anything lately.

When I select particular items in a search list and click on "copy to Database...", the progress window pops up very quickly and goes suddenly, much faster than I recall from usage before.

What can I do to track down the glitch?

Thanks,
Craig

Open the filter and compare what it is looking for (for example, how a reference begins, which for a direct filter should be *) and see how the UNC output really looks (lower pane). Most likely they've changed something.

Importing UNC

Post by CTurner »

Sorry to be dense on this, Jon. Here is a sample of what I get from UNC in the lower window from a database search:

MARC Record

LDR 01657cgm 2200253Ka 4500

520 $aLingerie tycoon F. Farrington Fowler is in a spot as he has ran out of
gas-ration coupons. He enlists his butler, Pomeroy, to drum up riders so
that he can get extra coupons from the ration board. Pomeroy gets a bunch of
showgirls and parks them in Fowler's mansion, this being easy since Mrs.
Fowler is away visiting her mother. Fowler adds to the number by bringing
home a young promoter. The showgirls, run riot on the premises and Fowler
passes them off as new domestics when Mrs. Fowler returns. A highly moral
business rival, DaFoe, and his wife come on a visit and park themselves
overnight, only to raise their collective eyebrows at the various events
occurring on different floors of the mansion. Fowler worms himself out of
one predicament after another and almost spoils the romance of his secretary
with the promoter.

Now, should "LDR" be what the filter is looking for? In the import filter edit window, there are no MARC tags at all, just the old Author--Authors; Title--titles, etc.
Do I need to change all these to MARC formats?

Sorry for the denseness.

Thanks,
Craig

The UNC Book Filter that we distribute doesn't do internet searching. So you must have modified it (or gotten a copy modified by someone else).

The filter we supply is meant to import files that were downloaded. That is, not MARC records.

You can zip and send me your filter, and if it works for me to do internet searches I'll add the MARC import tags.
