I use the excellent
Freemind mind mapping program to brainstorm, and would like to be able to link to Bookends from branches of my map.
Freemind is a Java app.
I copy the reference's hypertext link and paste it into Freemind (Hyperlink|Text field). When I click on the link I get
Clearly Java doesn't know about the protocol bookends://. Does any clever person know how to teach it?

Not all apps accept application URLs (prominent among them is Word). You may have to contact the developers of Freemind to ask that they add this feature.
