deleting references with attachments
I deleted some references, a few of which may have had a pdf attached. Since I did not use the attachment inspector to move the pdf to the trash first, I assume the attachment is still somewhere in the attachment folder. Problem is, I do not remember which references I deleted. Is there some way BE can find files in the attachment folder that are no longer associated with a reference?

Unfortunately, not automatically. You can do an sql search that will find any particular attachment in your database (or fail, if it's not there), but Bookends can't do a bulk search of all files in the attachment folder (and subfolders) and verify that each is actually attached to a reference in one of your databases.
